Kieran graduated in 2005 with degrees in Zoology and Veterinary Science, and worked in general practice for 6 years. He was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Cardiology in 2010, and undertook a Residency and combined Master degree at the Royal Veterinary College in 2011. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2014, and was awarded the ECVIM-CA Diploma later the same year and achieved RCVS Specialist status in 2015. Kieran has worked in a variety of referral hospitals, from private referral clinics to academic teaching hospitals, from clinics to senior leadership, and he joined the Cardiology department at BVS in 2025.
Over the last decade, Kieran has published a wide variety of research in the field of cardiology, with a particular focus on feline cardiomyopathy and congenital heart disease. He was one of the first vets in Europe to perform trans-catheter edge to edge repair for mitral valve disease in dogs in 2023, and pioneered the stent angioplasty procedure for pulmonary stenosis in dogs. He has taught veterinary teams from Europe, Asia, the middle-East and the USA to perform this minimally invasive surgery, and lectured at congresses on five continents. Alongside his clinical work and ongoing research collaborations, Kieran runs a micro-CPD Instagram account for veterinary professions with over 14,000 followers (@vet_cardio_), and is co-host and producer of The Animal Heartbeat, the only podcast dedicated to veterinary cardiology. In 2024, Kieran and his co-host were joint winners of the UK Bright Minds Industry Influencer Award for their work on the podcast, and by early 2025 it has over 45,000 downloads across 117 territories.
