Here are some top tips for taking good-quality eye pictures of your pet:
1. When possible, ask someone to assist you by holding your pet as still as possible to
avoid movement while taking the photo.
2. Open your pet’s eyelids gently with one hand.
3. Use the camera app with the flash turned on (most phones allow this on the default
camera app but occasionally you might need to download an extra app. Some
options include: Camera+, ProCamera, Macro, etc.).
4. It is very important to take the photos in the dark or at least in dimmed room.
Please avoid taking the images close to windows with natural outdoor light or
outdoors.
5. You could guide the focus point of the camera to the eye by tapping on the screen
with your finger on where the eye is (this might vary between different phones and
apps).
6. Take more than one picture if necessary or a video in the same dark conditions but
with the flash on continuously. Feel free to send us quite a few images and we will
choose to assess the ones of the best quality.
7. If your pet is patient enough and you have extra time, please take photos of both
eyes so we can compare the two and assess any variations.
8. Ideally your pet should be looking into the camera when you take the images so
encourage them to do that by calling their name, offering them a favorite treat or
using squeaky toys/objects.
9. Try and send us the images in the biggest “size” possible in terms of MB. If you
compress the files or send us thumbnails, this will affect the quality of the image
and your pet’s eye might appear very blurry.
